CONNEX size 4: New design. More advantages
After the reissue of the size 5-S of the CONNEX dry pluggable cable connection system, size 4 of the product family is also now available with new advantages.
There is a global trend toward larger conductor diameters for all voltage levels. In the course of adjusting to meet these requirements, PFISTERER re-engineered the size 4 HV-CONNEX connector for voltages up to 72.5 kV. It now covers all cable cross-sections from 95 mm² to 1,600 mm². The overall dimensions and the technical and mechanical properties of the system have also been optimised.
Thanks to the considerably more compact design of the insulating part and the bell flange the new size 4 requires less space in the often crowded equipment area and can be fitted more easily. The force effect of the bell flange on the insulating part has also been improved. In addition a heat shrink tube is now used for sealing instead of the sealing ring as previously. The type test completed at the Institute of Electrical Energy Systems and High-Voltage Technology at the University of Karlsruhe confirms the familiar high quality of the re-engineered size 4 that will gradually replace the previous CONNEX connector system. In the transition period either version will be supplied depending on the cable type. The two systems will continue to be compatible.
