IXOSIL and CONNEX: successful in an endurance test
The cable manufacturer General Cable has been placing its trust in the quality of PFISTERER’s cable fittings since 2003. Now the renowned testing institute KEMA has confirmed, as an independent third party, the performance of PFISTERER’s products following an endurance test conducted on General Cable’s high-voltage cables.
Founded in 1927 in Arnhem as a testing institute for the Dutch electricity sector, today KEMA stands for globally recognised tests and certifications of electrical appliances and accessories. In addition to its excellent reputation, this independent company provides the necessary infrastructure for carrying out complex endurance tests. Two good reasons for General Cable Technologies Corporation, headquartered in Highland Heights, Kentucky, USA to have their latest high-voltage cable tested by KEMA before launching it on the European market.
Cable General realised the connections (254 kV/2000 mm²) required for the 220 kV endurance test in KEMA's high-performance laboratory with products from the PFISTERER range. Terminations and joints from the IXOSIL product family as well as size 6-S CONNEX connectors were used in the tests. After 12 months of testing, KEMA confirmed the performance and reliability of the high-performance cables and cable fittings. This collaboration in the endurance test is a clear show of the level of faith that Cable General has in the products from PFISTERER and is at the same time a positive signal for their further diffusion. "Companies in the energy supply industry must be able to guarantee the security of the energy supplied. Their demands with respect to product quality are correspondingly high", says Erich Jochberg, head of the Construction and Development department in the Cable Systems business division. "Qualification tests such as this one are a welcome opportunity for us to demonstrate the performance of our products at neutral institutions."
